COMPOSITIONS – My work encompasses frameworks for improvisation, chamber music for small ensembles and layered recordings using both music and spoken word.

Here is a selection of my music:

Alto Layers (2020) was composed in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, using recordings of Linda Green’s viola playing
Sebald Layers (2020) is inspired by the writings of WG Sebald.
CD-DM-MS-SB (2021) was recorded in the studio of Danae Mattes as part of an ongoing project
More than Nine Minutes (2016) performed by Hadley McCarroll and Monica Scott at Z Space, San Francisco
Still Smokin’ (2014) performed by Brendan Lai-Tong, Matt Ingalls and Monica Scott at SFCM

PERFORMANCES:

Spring 2021

It was a great delight to perform at Old First Concerts, in a program with Hadley McCarroll and Matt Ingalls, and also featuring my daughter Magali’s Nautilus Trio. This was the first 2021 concert for which the venue was able to invite a LIVE audience! SO great.

I also joined Ava Soiffer and long-time colleague and friend Kate Stenberg for a trio recital that was live-streamed for Music on the Hill, including Piazzolla, Shostakovich and Dvorak.

In March, Hadley McCarroll and I recorded the Sonata in Memory of Viktor Shklovsky by Vladimir Godár for the Berkeley Piano Club.

Spring 2020

What a surprising change to all of our lives! My own spring turned into a time that was primarily focussed on my teaching, with all my students continuing their lessons on Zoom. I didn’t do much playing or performing, but enjoyed making the three “quartet” recordings that are featured on my home page.
